Blackjack’s Basic Rules

There are few things in life as satisfying as playing a good game of blackjack. However, with the busy schedules we all find ourselves trying to navigate around, it can often prove a bit challenging to try and get to a traditional casino.

This is likely one of the main reasons for the extreme popularity that online casinos have enjoyed in recent years. They can be accessed from almost any kind of device at almost any time of the day or night. If you are an avid player of online casino games, and you do think that blackjack is a game you will enjoy, have a look at some of its basic rules below so that when you start playing, you’re ready to jump right in!

The Number Of Decks May Vary

One of the main reasons that blackjack has stood the test of time is because it has one thing in common with every other successful game – it’s unpredictable. This sense of unpredictability is what keep the game exciting for players, as they never know what’s coming next. In this particular game, the basic rules state that it can be played with anything from one to eight decks of 52 cards. The number of decks used is affected by a number of factors, including the players. However, the final decision rests ultimately with the dealer.

The Value Of The Cards

When it comes to blackjack, the value of each card is completely different to that of other card games. Aces can be valued at either one or 11 points, card values displaying two through to ten will be rewarded points at face value. All face cards are awarded 10 points. The rule of thumb, however, is that the hand’s value is determined by the sum total of all the points on each card. This rule applies throughout the game, except for when someone draws a hand consisting of an ace and any 10 point card. This immediately outranks all other 21 point hands.

Don’t Hit Too Hard

The player to the left of the dealer is always the one who goes first in blackjack. Players can either choose to keep their cards as they are, or draw another one at a time. This is referred to as “a hit.” However, if the card causes the player’s total points to exceed 21, they will immediately lose that round. This is known as “busting” or “breaking” a hand.

If you remember the rules of blackjack, the basic strategy and the very easy to learn terminology, every experience you have of playing the game, whether it be online or in a traditional casino, will be an enjoyable one.

There is a reason that this game is one that has been passed down for centuries and centuries, and now, well into the 21st Century, it has been adapted to suit a modern lifestyle. No two games are ever the same when it comes to this casino classic, so be prepared to see many a twist and turn on the tables!
